Current Directors
Grace Diabah is the Co-Director Ghana at MIASA. She is Associate Professor of Language and Gender and a former Head of the Department of Linguistics, University of Ghana, Legon. Her research focuses on language and gender in African contexts (including masculinities) – in domains such as politics, media, education, and health; language in business; and humour studies.
Mamadou Diawara is the Co-Director Germany at MIASA. He is a professor for ethnology at the institute for ethnology at the Goethe University Frankfurt, deputy director of the Frobenius Institute in Frankfurt and Director of Point Sud, a Research Center for Local Knowledge in Bamako, Mali.

Susann Baller
Co-Director Germany at MIASA from 2021 to 2023
Susann Baller was the Co-Director Germany at MIASA from 2021 until 2023 and researcher in African history at the German Historical Institute Paris. After her three year term as MIASA Director she joined the Centre Marc Bloch Berlin as researcher. Her research interests include African urban history, popular culture and the history of decolonization in West Africa.
Charlotte Wrigley-Asante
Co-Director Ghana at MIASA from 2021 until 2022
Charlotte Wrigley-Asante was the Co-Director Ghana at MIASA from 2021 until 2022. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Resource Development, University of Ghana. Her main research areas include gender, urbanization, poverty and empowerment issues; gendered livelihoods focusing specifically on informal cross-border traders; gender dynamics of crime and safety in urban public spaces; gender and air pollution policies; gender and climate change in Ghana.
Abena D. Oduro
Co-Director Ghana from 2018 until 2021
Abena D. Oduro was the Co-Director Ghana from 2018 until 2021. She is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Ghana. Her main areas of research are poverty analysis, gender and assets, international trade policy, WTO issues and economics of education
Gordon Crawford
Co-Director Germany from 2018-2020
Gordon Crawford was the Co-Director Germany from 2018-2020. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Freiburg and a Research Professor in Global Development at Coventry University. His research interests include issues of human rights and democratization in development processes.
